On the environmental situation in Kaliningrad

Good afternoon!
Friends, today I will tell you about my experiences on the environmental situation in Kaliningrad. Living outside the Kaliningrad region and reading forums, I often faced with the discussion of this topic. The main impression of newcomers - "what  delicious air is in Kaliningrad"! It seemed plausible - after all, there is difference between maritime and continental climate, and maritime climate ceteris paribus is healthier. But the first olfactory impression on arrival at Kaliningrad South Station was the smell of car exhaust, which was especially pronounced when compared with usual - not less - gassed condition of central Russia.
After some time I realized what was happening. The air in Kaliningrad, for obvious reasons, is more humid and in the absence of contaminants is more healthy - both by virtue of marine mineral content, and simply due to the fact that the moist air is better absorbed by lungs. But for the same reason it is also potentially more hazardous in the presence of contaminants. Firstly because these contaminants are better dissolved therein, and secondly, because they will then better absorbed  by the lungs. On the same effect is also based London smog - by the same degree of contamination compared to other industrial cities, - in a moist environment this contamination becomes more harmful. Therefore comic poll about the cause of odor at the North Mountain (Kaliningrad district), probably can not be answered unequivocally - whether the exhausts of a car under the window, or a neighbor smoking on the balcony, unquenched bonfire of barbecue lovers, or - which is especially characteristic of the Northern Mountain - secretly burned household waste - all this is more noticeable at night, when wind dies down and fog falls.

  8. I liked your post but not sure how you would approach this situation. The characteristic of the air is both beneficial and harmful-you can't completely eliminate pollution factors but could more trees and plants help filter out the air? Just wondering. Very interesting post.
